AI Advisory Body
The use of artificial intelligence in surveillance systems in Asia and its impact on the right to privacy
The AI Advisory Body will deliberate on the balance between technological innovation and the protection of human rights. Delegates are tasked with examining how AI surveillance impacts cultural, political, and legal contexts across Asia, considering cases where the use of AI has strengthened public safety, but also where they have been linked to mass surveillance, discrimination, or suppression of dissent. This committee invites delegates to propose frameworks for the responsible management of artificial intelligence. Proposals should aim to balance state autonomy with the protection of universal human rights, ensuring that urban surveillance driven by artificial intelligence does not invade individuals' privacy or democratic values while also allowing for technological advancements. Questions to consider include: To what extent can AI surveillance be justified for national security? How can the government establish regulations that safeguard privacy while still embracing digital innovation? What role should international norms and cooperation play in preventing the misuse of AI technologies?
