The Thailand-Cambodia Conflict

The recent Cambodia-Thailand border conflict, which escalated in July 2025, is rooted in a long-standing territorial dispute over ancient temples such as Ta Muen Thom, as well as poorly established boundaries from the colonial period. Tensions increased after a skirmish in May 2025 left a Cambodian Soldier dead. This led to worsening relations between Cambodia and Thailand, eventually culminating in armed conflict in Mid-July 2025. This conflict led to tens of civilian casualties as well as hundreds of thousands of innocent people being displaced on both sides. A ceasefire was signed on July 28, but tensions remain high as both Thailand and Cambodia have accused each other of violating the ceasefire. Delegates must cooperate in order to address this situation and reduce tensions in South East Asia, while taking into consideration the cultural significance of these land disputes to both parties.
