Reforms on the United Nations

Since its creation in 1945, the United Nations has served as the central institution for maintaining international peace, resolving conflicts, and promoting cooperation between states. However, in recent decades, the UN's ability to influence major international conflicts has increasingly been questioned. Major powers have increasingly pursued military and foreign policy objectives with limited reliance on the United Nations, while conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and escalating tensions in the Middle East have demonstrated the difficulty of achieving unified international action. This has raised a fundamental question. Has the United Nations lost its ability to shape the international order? In this committee, delegates will examine the growing gap between the authority of the UN and the actions of powerful states, debate the causes of the organization's declining influence, and determine whether meaningful reforms can restore the UN's ability to prevent conflict and maintain international peace.
