Natural resources are essential for the functioning and development of current-day societies, but unequal distribution and increasing demand can and have created tension between countries. Resources such as oil, natural gas, minerals, and freshwater are often concentrated in specific regions, making access to them an important economic and strategic concern. Competition over these resources can contribute to territorial disputes, political instability, environmental damage, and armed conflict. As demand continues to grow, the international community faces the challenge of ensuring access to essential resources while preventing competition from becoming a threat to international peace and security. In this committee, delegates will examine the relationship between natural resource access and global security and discuss possible international solutions.
